Alonissos might not have the flashy reputation of islands like Mykonos or even nearby Mamma Mia islands of Skiathos and Skopelos, but honestly? I think that’s part of the reason people end up loving it so much.
One of the top reasons people visit Alonissos is to be in, around or under the water. The island feels like Greece years ago, without the massive tourism boom and it has retained its laid back approach and vibe.
I found most of the beaches are quieter and wilder. There are a lot of pine trees reaching down to the water, small coves and clear waters. You’ll find fishing villages just nearby for eating Greek food and not as many beach bars.
After spending time exploring the island by car, boat and scooter, here are the beaches I think are most worth your time in 2026.

ToggleBest Beaches in Alonissos
Agios Dimitrios
- 🚗 20 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍Organized + free sections.
Agios Dimitrios is one of the most popular beaches on Alonissos, known for its pebbly shore and turquoise waters. It’s a large bay, with one part organized with reasonably priced sunbeds.
Some parts of the beach are completely open for those who want to bring their own umbrellas or sunbathe.
Across from the beach, you can enjoy views of Peristera Island and watch boats and cruises come and go. The water gradually deepens, but there are shallow parts on the right-hand cove where you’ll find a couple of beach bars.
Patitiri Beach
- 🚗 Just walk for a minutes, it’s next to the port
- 📍Small bay so you’ll have to claim a spot
The port beach, is located on the opposite side of where the ferry docks.
It is a dreamy spot for a quick swim. The contrast of the vibrant green trees, turquoise waters, and rocky cliffs creates a picturesque setting.
While centrally located, there is always space, even during the busy days of August. The big advantage here is the proximity to cafes and restaurants, perfect for cooling down before lunch or for families with children.
Mikros Mourtias
- 🚗 15 minutes drive, you’ll go up to Chora
- 📍Not organized – nudist beach
I wasn’t sure about this spot.. but early one morning we thought we’d give it a go.
It is a nudist-spot quite close to Chora, but you do need to drive down quite a gravely road.
You’ll then have to walk down for another 10 minutes or so to reach this spot.
The right side of the beach is shallow but the rocks and urchins make it a bit harder to enter.
Votsi Beach
- 🚗 8 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍No subbed rentals
I loved this small spot near the main village of Votsi. The swimming area is sectioned off from where boats come and go, and there are plenty of tavernas nearby if you get hungry.
Compared to some of the more dramatic beaches on Alonissos, Votsi feels accessible and easy.
There is not a lot of space on this beach either (like in Patitiri) so you’ll probably just pick a spot to place your towel down. I also loved all the colors of the pebbles here. Yellow, black and terra coat stone picking by the shore kept me very occupied for an hour.
Paralia Milia
- 🚗 15 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍Organized + free sections.
Milia is located one bay behind the much more popular Chrissi Milia. The name confusion was the only reason we stumbled upon this gem. It’s a great alternative to Chrissi Milia, even without the sandy cove.
This is the kind of beach where you have more space to spread out and bring your gear (umbrellas, sunbeds or paddle board). There is also a small beach bar/cafe if you need a little refreshment.
Chrisi Milia
- 🚗 20 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍Beach Bar organized
Chrisi Milia is the only sandy beach on the island, which is why it gets quite a bit of traffic.
There is a beach bar with great service, but also spots to put down your umbrella and towels. On the day we visited, it was a bit windy, creating lots of waves, which was a fun activity for the children.
If you prefer sandy beaches, this is one of your only options on the island. But you might have to sacrifice your peace as it is a busy and more organized spot.
Kokkinokastro Beach
- 🚗 20 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍Organized + free sections.
Probably my favorite of all the beaches visited, Kokkinokastro captivates you with its reddish rock formations.
There’s also a small islet in the middle of the bay to visit if you have a kayak or paddleboard. Even if you don’t swim here, visit later in the day before sunset to truly appreciate the colors of the landscape.
This is the more cinematic option of all the beaches on the island.
To reach the spot, you’ll also have to drive down some steep roads, so make sure your driving skills are good. Alternative you can also park a bit further out and just walk down.
Gerakas Beach
- 🚗 35 minute drive from Patitiri
- 📍Organized + free sections.
Gerakas Beach is located in the small fishing settlement of Gerakas on the northernmost part of the island, reachable by car.
The drive there is an adventure, offering opportunities to enjoy the island’s scenery and views of nearby Peristera. The beach is small with lots of fish, and a small canteen that, when open, provides refreshments and snacks. Bring your own food and water just in case. It’s also a good idea to bring your snorkeling equipment to explore the marine life.
This is one of those remote spots on the island, that you go to in order to stay for a few hours and truly relax.
Peristera Beach
- 🚤 Accessible only by boat
- 🏖️ Unorganized natural beach
To reach Peristera Beach, you’ll need to join a boat tour or rent a boat from Patitiri and head towards Peristera Island. This beach is one of two remaining natural harbors, the other being Vasiliko. It’s one of the most popular beaches around the island due to its good anchoring conditions and the charming houses surrounding the bay.
I had a lot of fun diving for seashells here and exploring with my snorkel.
Steni Vala
- 🚗 Around 20 minutes from Patitiri
- 🏖️ Unorganized
Steni Vala is more of a small fishing harbor and village than a classic beach destination, but it still has a lovely little swimming area for a refreshing dip.
What I liked most here was the overall atmosphere rather than the beach itself. Fishing boats, seafood tavernas and calm turquoise water give the whole area a very laid-back local feel.
I would mostly recommend coming here for the food, but having the option to cool down.
Alonissos has a lot more to offer. So make sure to read this guide to Alonissos next.
